Thakurgaon, Bangladesh — S M Mossaddik Billah Arafat, a student of Thakurgaon Govt. Boys’ High School, has been honored with the prestigious President’s Scout Award 2019 by the Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid. This accolade recognizes his exceptional performance as an outstanding scout, highlighting his dedication and commitment to the values of scouting.
In an interview, Arafat expressed his deep commitment to serving his country and humanity, stating that his involvement in the Scout Movement will help him become a good citizen. “Through scouting, I hope to further serve my country and contribute to the betterment of humanity,” he said.
The award ceremony took place during the 50th National Council of Bangladesh Scouts (Golden Jubilee) on June 27, 2022, at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center. The event was inaugurated by President Abdul Hamid, who is also the Chief Scout of Bangladesh, through a virtual connection from Bangabhaban.
The event was presided over by Abul Kalam Azad, the President of Bangladesh Scouts and Commissioner of the Global Commission on Biodiversities. Chief National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts and Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Md. Mozammel Haque Khan, delivered the welcome speech.
During the ceremony, the highest awards of Bangladesh Scouts, the Silver Tiger and Silver Hilsa Awards, were presented by Dr. Md. Mozammel Haque Khan. The State Minister of the Ministry of Primary and Public Education, Zakir Hossain, received the ‘Silver Tiger’ award. Additionally, the President’s Scout Award and President’s Rover Scout Award were conferred upon scouts and rover scouts who achieved the highest qualifications through hands-on training.
President Abdul Hamid emphasized the vital role of scouting in keeping children, teenagers, and youth away from criminal activities, extremism, and militancy, alongside sports and healthy entertainment. “I strongly believe that scouting activities can engage future generations in progressive, creative, and developmental pursuits,” he stated.
The Golden Jubilee celebration marked the 50th anniversary of the first National Council meeting held in independent Bangladesh on April 8-9, 1972. Approximately 2,000 people, including 294 councilors, awardees, invited guests from across the country, attended the event.
